Congress just voted to pass the GOP’s extreme budget bill, cementing severe cuts to Medicaid and a backdoor ban on abortion by defunding Planned Parenthood. The passage of this extreme budget will leave 16 million people without health care coverage.

Medicaid helps millions of people across the country access health care, including reproductive health care like birth control, prenatal and postpartum care, STI screenings, cancer screenings, and maternal health services.

More than 70 million people are covered by Medicaid. Almost two-thirds of adult women enrolled in Medicaid are ages 19 to 44. More than 80% of Americans oppose cuts to the program.

Planned Parenthood health centers provide critical health care to millions of people across the country. “Defunding” this organization means nearly 200 health centers will be forced to close.

Dismantling Medicaid is yet another tool in the GOP’s toolbox to prevent people from being in control of their own decisions about their bodies, lives, and futures.
